The day gray sky began to weep
I grabbed a book
lit a fire
and snuggled down under
soft warn quilts.

The pattering of rain
on the roof
and warmth from the fire
wrapped around protectively
lulling me into sleepy repose.

My eyes struggled with the
heaviness of sleep.

Slowly the book slipped unnoticed
from my hand
and fell upon the floor.
My breathing became softer
and I began to drift away
on a mantle of dreams.

I saw a room
warmed by firelight
and a woman
sleeping in a chair.

She was so at peace.

I tiptoed so not to wake her.
I could almost feel her breathe.
The book she had been reading
lay on the floor.

I reached to pick it up.

The gray light had darkened.
The clock showed the afternoon
was on the wane.
Firelight brightened the cozy room.
The fragrant logs crackled
as I snuggled down
under soft worn quilts.
