Everyone is thru waiting. So this saturday in waterville Me. our will be induced and little Chloe will have to show......making her grand entrance to the world! We are all very excited!

LET THE 2008 FESTIVITIES BEGIN!!!!

This month is our usual kick off for the season of sun fun and adventure. But for us...again...there is a hitch. We are going to be grandparents any moment!!! There have been some issues with the baby...she....yes...she is (go figure this) taking her time coming around. So at first we thought she was going to be early....now we just want her to show up. I am not sure when they are the most trouble...when first born.....or later.
Well I digress. ACTIVITIES SEASON IS AMONGST US!!
We thought we might combine the April "Damn I Wish It Were Summer Swing Party and the annual Memorial Day Swing party to one. So two schools of thought and we have to act fast.
Plan A Group of people all take rooms at the Holiday Inn Express in Seabrook NH Average room, 2 queen beds with wireless net, HBO TV phone system, microwave, coffee maker, medium/small refrigerator, iron board and hair dryer is 143.99 for two, $10.00 per person over. This location has a great indoor pool and Jacuzzi and exercises room.
We are also located close to many restaurants, a skip to hampton beach area, a skip and hop north to kittery Maine, and skip and hop south to Salisbury's beach...and club sinz.
Day time fun besides the obvious also includes trips to rockport and salem Ma. Trip to Boston. Trip to kittery Me. It all depends on weather and interest.
In the evening we all try to meet for a huge dinner reservation. And then let the nights festivities begin.
The fun with this is with so many rooms room hopping is the game. And the really cool thing is you can have your own mini party in your room. Nice huh? We have done this once per year at another location for 4 years. We missed last year with family problems.
PLAN B is to do the same weekend....down scaled....in loudon NH at the red roof INN our usual location. They to have an indoor pool, Day trips are further away but doable up to including trip to winipasaki, concord and the annual trip to therns, laconia, even the coast is about 30 minutes away. Sinz in exeter is an option as well. Organized dinner at Makris lobster and steak house.
PLAN C Our usual hosted day to evening Swing BBQ. on sunday, memorial day weekend. This is in house, smaller activity scale but much easier on the wallet.
We will organize what our friends wish to enjoy. Please let us know here which is preferred. As all do require some money, some more then others to attend do not say you are coming or prefer an event if you are not going to attend. Cause what ever is chosen deposits will have to be made.
We also have our annual BLUES FESTIVAL---BARNFUL OF BLUES----all day 7 plus bands all regional and headliner bands on august 2nd at the Hillsboro's youth center, hillsborough county fair grounds. in New Boston NH. This is a non swing event. Family day of music and coolers. This is a big event!! Tickets are sold early ask for us and we can get you hooked up with tickets!! All profits go to a charity in manchester to benefit .

....So...most of you know that M and I are impatiently awaiting the birth of our first grandchild....to our ...and her name will be Chloe. Our new names will be Queenie (well hers didn't change much did it?) and Opa. That's right Opa....not Umpa or Ohmpa.....Opa. They both seem to fit and it is a step up for me from "hay asshole".
And as life goes our has had some trouble with the pregnancy so that has kept all of us here on our toes and traveling back and forth to maine quite a bit. It is what we do.
Well both mommy to be and baby to be are fine and there is light at the end of the tunnel.....no pun...and baby is due any day now. WHOO HOO!!!
This past weekend we traveled up with my mother....yup....mother dearest and I in the same car..now that last happened for a road trip in 1973 I think. But it was all worth it. Mom had fun, I had fun and the Queen also had fun.
Our granddaughter to be seems to have developed her mother to be attitude and personality. There is a goddess and she has a sense of humor! So by the looks of things my will experience herself in miniature very soon. I am so loving this!
We decided to take a break on the 4.5 hour drive thru maine to stop at Target and acquire baby equipment needs. We stopped for Stroller and infant car carrier with base and to buy an extra base for Daddy to be's car as well. Should be in and out in say...30 minutes?!? OH SO WRONG!!!!!
After much discussion on equipment and apparatus etc we made a decision. BUT.....Target also places all the "cute" stuff in and around the baby equipment and apparatus product. An hour and a half.......1.5 hours of frenzy like you would see on cable news when the sharks all come to florida about the same time as the snow birds. I went from cart with equipment and manageable to cart with equipment and me and two young male teens I had to pay to help push it to the front thru check out. I never saw hard plastic cart tires sag so much under weight.

So don't send a pending grandfather to buy this stuff. Last diapers I had to buy were back in .....well a while a go and made of cloth....(Alice and Angela better not be laughing) we didn't really use throw a ways. But I like the concept. Throw away diapers....throw far away.
So while new mommy to be....Queenie and Mommy Dearest were all discussing every aspect of the new nursery now all but complete and ready to be inhabited by a carefully designed eating, sleeping, crapping machine I stood on their deck looking out over the valley with Daddy to be. HPV, which can cause cancer, was found to be the most common STD
One in four teenage girls in the United States has a sexually-transmitted disease, a study has indicated.
The study, by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), found an even higher prevalence of STDs among black girls.
Researcher’s analyzed data from a nationally representative sample of 838 US girls aged 14 to 19.
A virus that causes cervical cancer - HPV - was the most common, followed by Chlamydia, trichomoniasis and herpes.
The CDC says the study is the first in its kind to examine the prevalence of common sexually transmitted diseases among adolescent girls.
It found that nearly half of the African-American girls surveyed had at least one STD, while the rate was 20% among white and Mexican-American teenagers.
Human papillomavirus, or HPV, affected 18% of the girls surveyed, Chlamydia 4%, trichomoniasis 2.5%, and herpes simplex virus 2%.
Screening recommended
The CDC's Devin Fenton said it was a serious issue because the diseases could lead to infertility and cervical cancer.
"Screening, vaccination and other prevention strategies for sexually active women are among our highest public health priorities," he said.
The CDC is recommending annual Chlamydia screening for all sexually active women under 25, and HPV vaccines for girls aged 11 to 12, followed by booster injections.
John Douglas, the CDC's head of STD prevention, says screenings are underused because teenagers often do not think they are at risk.
Analysts say some doctors are also reluctant to discuss screening with teenage patients because of confidentiality concerns, knowing parents would have to be told of the results.
I have a huge problem with blurps of news like this concerning doom and gloom and the collapse of our society etc. It is always on how they conduct the study and then give it such over whelming power by stating it must be factual across the nation. Is sex prevalent across the country…you bet. Girls mature and want boys…boys mature and want girls. Usually the boys put the moves on the girls to try to get more. It has been happening since the dawn of time. This is nothing new.
The problem as always comes in when well meaning but greatly misguided adults try to stem the tide or change the course of nature. Male and female are on a collision coarse to meet. Oh and the tests. Well some perspective here is called for. They used 838 girls supposedly nationally representing girls 14 to 19. Anyone have any idea how many girls are in the USA between the ages of 14 - 19? We have almost that many in our junior and senior high school alone here in little ol’Amherst NH. Care to think how many girls that age in say, Manchester NH? Boston MA? How about Chicago? New York City? What about the demographics? Do you think sexual contact happens earlier in urban or rural situations? Do you think sexual contact happens more often with non white girls of any type earlier in an urban setting or rural setting…..when they are in a majority within their neighborhood or the token few in a small white town? The biggest social implication is studies like this that divert from real issues, causes and answers.
I really hate that they publicize this stuff like they discovered gold or something. Take it for what it is worth. Studies that have to support their existence. Does sex exist among the young…….DAH…..YEAH!!!! Do all behave they way these studies say? Not even in NYC or LA. Is the sexual health of young ladies and young men have cause for concern YOU DAMN WELL BETTER BELIEVE IT!! Can you be part of the answer to help these by helping yours the most? DAMN RIGHT. All fantasy set aside how long does the average male/female penetrative sex act last? Manners, interest, the casual rebuff and rejection
Recent invasions of lower standards of conduct have caused me to publish yet another dreaded list. Ladies, forgive us all now our being unavoidably male, and add and refine this list as you see fit. I do not claim to be the perfect gentleman or the best suitor for anyone here, but I do strive to become so.
Ah men, you gotta love us. You really do. We are all so predictable and yet so cute. We are all living in an alternative lifestyle that treats sexual contact and acts with acquaintances and friends as a wonderful recreational event. We are all adult enough to know what we like and with whom…..we can make our own decisions on who we wish to be with and for what and we all enjoy a great adventure. So why is it that when it comes to connecting we are ….many of us….still in high school? And this goes for you ladies as well. Some times the word “Hi” or “Hello” can have so many meanings. From “geez was my flie open when I said that” to “I thinks she really likes me”. And although you ladies are much more subtle you have your same variations.
Verbalizing and interest, gesturing and body language is still all a very big part of being able to communicate in the every day world and in the swing world as well. And as in the everyday world friendliness does not mean lets date…or in our case….lets go to bed…..or you can have me, it means I am being polite and am talking with you…getting to know you or just sharing my manners.

Just when you think no one has an original thought for themselves any more. Just when you thought all weddings had to start at putting you in the poor house and finish you in a twenty year personal loan along comes two young people who want to do things on their own. *gasp* Dare they...yes they dare.
My nephew and his intended threw tradition *cough* and expectations to the wind as have many young couples this past year. Many of our 's friends, like them, now all grown to young adults are getting married in some very unique and splendid ways. Old abandoned buildings, open parks, back yards in special dress and attire. Hay anywhere I can go to a wedding and reception and not be fully dressed to meet my Misty's expectations and be comfortable and be welcomed to the crowd...as perfectly dressed...I am game. Who says bare feet flip flops braided hear and wild ass color ties can't make an appearance and be appreciated by those attending.
I was stunning.
And tomorrow my nephew and his soon to be wife get their wish. On an icy pond, with fresh fallen snow, and snow flakes fluttering all around in flurries they will be saying their vows to start their lives together. Something I am sure they will always remember and those there will remember for the rest of their lives.
Different, out of the box, classy, memorable. Isn't that what it is all about? A hundred and fifty to two hundred years ago people would be living together and having and waiting for a man of the cloth to come by and bless their pairing. Many never had that......coarse not many family trees brag about that. But the thing is there just were not that many clergy stumbling around the wilds of our country. So these two are ahead of the curve here getting married before spring hits and the rush to tie the knot.
We wish them of coarse all the best. But, we also hope that they have feet warmers at the reception.
