Even with the small tropical storm going through yesterday, was still nice on the beach, if you like overcast and rain . Had a short power outage last night. I was fortunate to catch up with a friend, we have known each other for many years and she is a neighbor in the building where my apartment I own is located (not where I am right now). We time to "catch up".

First an apolgy, I am having difficulty with this netbook I am using and the internet connect is sooooooooo slow. So I have extreme problems responding or commenting. Takes forever to post the pictures.

Made it in yesterday had a great flight. Down side, the water heater in the apartment I was renting blew out before I got there. To their credit the proprietor hustled to find me a temporary residence until things get fixed. They found me a place, a bit back from te beach for yesterday and part of today. Good news, it is no charge. They are very accomodating here. So picture taking and beach time was very limited. Hopefully things will be better today. First picture is of some of the co habitants of the beach

I am getting very excited about my week in Puerto Rico,, Getting my last minute things done. I hope to be able to post pictures of the "excellent adventure " tomorrow and for the week to come. Does anyone have any idea of what they would like to see pictures of?

Just a bit of juvenile teasing. I am leaving Monday morning for a week in sunny Puerto Rico. I am going to vegetate on the beach, eat the delicious food and enjoy the "scenery". I was thinking about starting a blog when I get there to share pictures and maybe videos each day.

I know this is a depature from my usual silly and naughty blog posts. I saw this on the news today and thought I would share it. I have redacted the recipients name,, but you can do a search for an award of a Congressional Medal of Honor on 26 August 2013 for further details. As a retired member of the United States Military I am proud when the extraordinary efforts of members of our military is recognized. And of course the military’s all over the world have men and women of this caliber. Thank you for taking a moment to read this.

The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, March 3, 1863, has awarded in the name of Congress the Medal of Honor to
Staff Sergeant **********
United States Army
For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty:
******** distinguished himself by acts of gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty while serving as a Scout with Bravo Troop, 3d Squadron, 61st Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, during combat operations against an armed enemy in Kamdesh District, Nuristan Province, Afghanistan on October 3, 2009. On that morning, ******* and his comrades awakened to an attack of an estimated 300 enemy fighters occupying the high ground on all four sides of Combat Outpost Keating, employing concentrated fire from recoilless rifles, rocket propelled grenades, anti-aircraft machine guns, mortars and small arms fire. ****** reinforced a forward battle position, ran twice through a 100 meter gauntlet of enemy fire to resupply ammunition and voluntarily remained there to defend the isolated position. Armed with only an M4 carbine rifle, ******** placed accurate, deadly fire on the enemy, beating back the assault force and preventing the position from being overrun, over the course of several hours. With complete disregard for his own safety and in spite of his own wounds, he ran through a hail of enemy rocket propelled grenade and machine gun fire to rescue a critically wounded comrade who had been pinned down in an exposed position. ******** rendered life extending first aid and carried the Soldier to cover. On his own initiative, ******* again maneuvered through enemy fire to check on a fallen Soldier and recovered the squad’s radio, which allowed them to coordinate their evacuation with fellow Soldiers. With teammates providing covering fire, ******** assisted in moving the wounded Soldier 100 meters through withering enemy fire to the aid station and before returning to the fight. ****** heroic actions and tactical skill were critical to the defense of Combat Outpost Keating, preventing the enemy from capturing the position and saving the lives of his fellow Soldiers. ********* extraordinary heroism and selflessness above and beyond the call of duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, Bravo Troop, 3d Squadron, 61st Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division and the United States Army.
