I was lucky to grow up in a close extended family. I went to elementary school with 2 of my cousins and everyone went to Grandma's after church. As we became adults with our own families to raise, we saw less and less of each other but I still see my cousins here and there. My 4 brothers are scattered and I don't see them - or their offspring - as often as I'd like. My only child and I are very close.

Marijuana? I've passed the toke from the left to the right but have not {intentionally} inhaled. I'm not against the legalization but I'm not looking forward to it, either. I dislike the smell.
Grandma's for lunch. That is something that I can relate to... Hmmm. Sounds like it was a lot of fun. And cheers to you - for choices. I'll let you know how things work out here... 🎃😁👌

After both my parents died, it seemed a lot of the traditions and reasons we gathered as a family died too. It's far too easy for everyone to get caught up in their own lives and forget about keeping in touch. Friends would never stick around if treated the same way.
In high school, weed was the dominant drug of choice but I was too scared to try it. Now that it's legal here.....who knows?
As a side note....I hate the word 'goodbye' . It's feels far too permanent so I never use it.
I didn't realize that this blog post was going to be so sad in so many ways. I hear what you are saying about families drifting apart after the parents leave. I hope you can still build memories with those close to you...
Yes... That era was scary. Perhaps by legalizing it, they can also educate kids about the dangers of using it as well. Take care... 🎃😀

I don't spend enough time with those I love the most (my daughter, grand-daughter, and son),, but am fortunate there are many opportunities to stay close to them. I am working extra hard at forging a relationship with my adult son, as he has always been much closer to his Dad - and that continues to be a work in progress. And as far as my daughter and grand-daughter, I should make an effort to phone them more frequently.

Thanks for this reminder.

As for the rest of my extended family - I have been so lucky that until my Mother passed away, I had NEVER lived through a Christmas that Ii didn't spend with either both of 1 of my parents. The extended family all gathered together, at my parent's home, whenever they could - and we are all struggling to maintain those close ties, now that the "Glue" (my late Mother) is no longer here.

In my family, I have also been very fortunate, in that ALL the siblings, in-laws, children, cousins and their children, continue to gather when they can. In fact, the family Christmas draw still continues - and has been going on for at least 47 years.

It's beyond my comprehension, how estrangements in families can even happen, let alone tear families apart, for years. How lucky you were to witness that happy scene, and I thank you for sharing the story.

What a beautiful experience. I hope their reconnection grows into a beautiful relationship.

Yes, I am close with my kids. We keep in touch nearly every day, I do video calls every couple of weeks, and I travel to see them 3 or 4 times per year.

I am also close with my parents and sister, and my former inlaws. They are all important in my life, but my kids come first.

Yes, I have tried marijuana, but not until it was legal in Washington state.
