Did You Get A Raise?

Did You Get A Raise?

I've been reading news articles about employee shortages, canceling Federal Unemployment benefits, product shortages, and high prices. All are a result of COVID 19 in one form or another.

For months news outlets have been reporting that there will be an increase in price for many food items and basic necessities. Most of it is because of an increase in demand and not enough employees make the stuff. In addition, there were backlogs because of a reduction in what was allowed be brought in from Chine and other countries that provide sourced materials.

I have seen the cost of many things rise over the last year. I have not gotten a cost of living raise. So I worked through the entire Pandemic and I still have higher prices brought on by those that were paid stay home and not wor But yet they are the very people who spent a lot of ordering shit online and causing the increase in demand and the shortage on employees.

I see loads of employers offing higher starting rates, sign on bonuses, etc. lure people back wor Like my niece's boyfriend said, " If I have choose between a job that pays $490 a week or unemployment that pays me $540 a week, I'm choosing unemployment." So there it is. I know this is not true for every single person, but it is enough of the population thinking this way that lead us this point.

So now many states are dropping the federal boost unemployment benefits and requiring those receiving state benefits start looking for jobs while still collecting unemployment benefits. It won't be long that every state will soon follow.

It is believed that the Pandemic is over now that the vaccine is out there and people are getting vaccinated. Infection rates in the US are dropping and so is the death rate.

I like many people worked through the entire ordeal, didn't get extra , got vaccinated when it was my turn and maintained the same spending habits. Now I can't afford certain things because of the high prices. I live quite frugally anyway and now it is getting worse.

If you are one of those that are collecting unemployment and refusing go back work, FUCK YOU! If I could get a part time job with my fulltime job, I would take that in a heartbeat supplement my income so I could actually afford live.

It's all part of the Lib plan to force raising the minimum wage to $15.
The working guy won't get a raise, but the burger flipper will.

I hear ya Donna Chang. I did my part. I Worked through the entire pandemic, wore a mask, social distanced, bought and spent responsibly, and got vaccinated.

Your right on. I’ll be glad when the extra money is cut out . People need to work maybe that would keep them out of trouble. And no cost of living increase for me either!!

I totally agree with you. You'll find there are givers and takers in life, where the givers work for what they have and often share with others in one form or another, and you have the takers who are constantly bitching and using others to give them a free lunch. I have an ex friend who has been TAKING unemployment for the last year and all she does is go on trips kayaking. Having been BFFs for a substantial time, I know in her mind she feels like she deserves it. When the gravy train ends I'm quite certain she will be one of those back out there bitching and moaning.

For the past decade or so I've gotten teensy raises that haven't kept up with inflation. Now that inflation is really taking off I am expecting the same feeble raise which is effectively a decrease in real terms. All that money printing and those unemployment bonuses inevitably come home to roost -- and maybe that's even what they intended. Just another way to soak the working class. So - hear hear!

I am lucky that I am farming for myself now, I started farming for myself at 13 years old, but never was big enough to just farm. I finally finished out how to shut my construction company down and just farm. It made life a lot less stressful. I had guys working that were basically worthless. Mostly because they thought being on the job site was good enough to get paid. My theory was if you want 20 dollars per hour, you have to show me you are worth it. I had one guy that didn't want to accomplish anything. I was paying him 10 dollars a hour basically to hold the other end of boards because he was slow with a hammer. One day he told me he really didn't like working, but he needed money. He was serious as hell when he ask if I would pay him 5 dollars a hour to just keep me company during the day and tell me jokes. Man I am glad I am working alone,

Anything worth doing is worth doing right

While the infection rates and death rates have levelled out here at fairly low numbers, there is now fear of a third wave with regards to the Indian variant of the virus. Just as the NHS is beginning to start tackling the backlog of treatments and surgery that had to be delayed due to the pandemic, I hope there isn't a third wave that affects them.

There's also a global shortage of microprocessor chips which some say could go on for another year while production ramps up again. This could affect everything that needs a processor to function, including cars, PCs, washing machines.

Covid-19 has been expensive for everyone.
