My Pet Peas!

I am certain I'm not the only person annoyed by incorrect usage of certain words, which are spelled differently, but the same or similarly.

One such group is included in the following sentence. THEY'RE placing THEIR items on the shelf, over THERE. THEY'RE is the contration of they are. THEIR is possessive, indicating ownership or belonging to. THERE indicates a direction or place.

Other groups are 'bear' and 'bare; 'pair', 'pare', and 'pear'; 'piqued',and 'peaked'. PEAKED is interesting in itself, as it can be pronounced with two syllables to indicate a pale, sallow, wan or sickly appearance, or a single syllable to simply mean a pointy top.

Some may consider me an elitist snob for even bringing this up, but I am not. I often annoy other's private peas by my general lack of use of capital (not capitol) letters at the beginnings of sentences and for proper nouns. In my defense, I usually type one-handed and it's (not its) just easier. I never mean to offend anyone.

My main goal is to inform. Many simply never learned the difference. I don't really sit in judgement on anyone and almost NEVER comment on their writing. I leave that to the old USEnet hero, Captain Nitpick.

All that said, feel free to leave any comments, pro or con, or list your OWN private peas! lol!

Oh! the lol reminded me of another. I don't really like text-speak such as u, ur, hmu, dtf, etc., but understand it's just the price we pay for limited numbers of characters in texts and tweets.

Thanks for listening to my rant... happym;

chas

I stole the tag line here from another member's signature line. I would credit it but I forgot who it was...

Neither, really. Just had a thought and threw it out there. Whatever response it stimulates speaks to others issues, not mine, but I suppose that's what it's about. Thanks for reading.

I just had another thought while posting my last reply. A sports related issue. I get really annoyed when baseball commentators refer to an on-deck player as a hitter instead of a batter. He/she may BECOME a hitter, but currently is just a batter.

on a more hilarious note, I almost fell out of my chair laughing, when one, trying to be grammatically correct, said a player "flew out to left field"! I would have paid good money to see that one!

Dont forget that cellphones routinely have autocorrect and many people are in too much of a hurry to go back and fix all the dumb things that autocorrect does to what normal people type

Looking forward to a good year ahead!!

Well, the title certainly peaked my interest so I piqued in for a gander at what this post was about. I thought, surely he'd become a bit peeked were he to later decide to eat those peeves he kept as 'pets'. Like many items when there left too long on the shelf their, peeves lose they're appeal.

This was hilarious! I thought about doing that for the entire post, but worried some would have wondered "what the hell is HE on about?" ? Thanks BiggLala

Yes, that can be a problem, but also can be quite hilarious. Imagine the consternation of the woman who received my autocorrected message about wanting to lick her pus as a response to her question about my favorite activity! Kidding aside, I can accept that as an excuse occasionally, but if they are that unaware of what they are writing, maybe I'm not really interested in what they have to say.
