If you commit to meeting for a date with an individual, the least you can do is show up or let them know that you changed your mind. I drove 90 minutes to meet a women the other night only to be stood up. After a number of texts she finally responded with "I guess I did forget, my apologies". This was after we had emailed each other numerous times setting up the date, time and our attire as well as expressing an excitement to meet each other.

I don't know what really happened but it left me feeling very empty and wondering just who I can trust. I can take rejection but not in this form.

First, it will give you a good idea that 'she' is indeed a she. Second, a better reading on the chemistry meter.
