Sine Qua Non A Poem

Oh how I wail!
At such a derailing.
I cry foul!
For it is not fair.
Life has failed
Once again to deliver
Upon a promise.

Sure there are
No guarantees
But happiness
And love
Are what
Us modern human beings
See as requisite.

Are they not
The sine qua non
Of a fulfilled life?
Essential
And necessary?
So when I cry foul
When I wail
When happiness
And love are elusive
It is only natural.
