Quite The Characters. A Poem

I think he will wonder
An old love interest of mine
What if anything of him
Will I write.

Will it be about our conversation
It was pretty decent
We reminisced
And caught up
About current happenings.

It's funny actually
How I recalled him
As I traveled through
One part of my state.
Come to find out
He moved to the seacoast
As is now living
In the state of Maine.
In a town I recently visited
With a friend
Who wanted to show me
His favorite buffet
And seafood restaurant
Named Warren's.

My old friend said
He lived two blocks away.
Boy was I jealous.
I love the area.
I would love to move there
But it's impossible
For a variety of reasons.

He has a new girlfriend.
I was never good enough
For that description.
We never even met.
We only talked on the phone
And texted.

It's a good thing
Now that I think of it
He could have done
A lot more damage
To my heart
Had his rejection
Been in person.

There was a lesson
He taught
How I might never
Be good enough.
More accurate would be
That the lesson was
Just reinforced
Call it a refresher course
But refreshing
It was not.
In fact it was
Just the opposite.

But even still
We are human beings
Who did make a connection
Once upon a time.
I dare say we are both
Quite the characters
In each other's mind.
