Well I Finally Retired The Razor...

Well I Finally Retired The Razor...

Yes I gave in to the persistent notices from the cellular phone company about upgrading to a new phone because of the upcoming end of 2G service. So they sent me a free phone, an LG K10 and I retired my old Razor that I've been using for the last ten years or so. Not a fancy expensive phone or anything but a pretty good 3G phone that will do for now.

You see I was actually going to buy a Samsung Note 7 but had decided to wait and see if there was any issues with them before I bought one. I guess I'm glad I waited, not because of the free phone but because I wouldn't have wanted to set my pants on fire, at least not because my phone was burning or exploding. I don't need another hole in my ass! I'm not that full of shit...

So now I guess I will have to wait and see what the next issue from Samsung will be. I do like waterproof and want a larger phone, not because I'm into watching movies or anything like that but because I can use a smart phone in my work and I don't like fine print or sliding things all over and back as it doesn't work well with dyslexia. So larger screen equals less eye and brain strain for me. I just need a bulletproof case to keep it from getting broken especially if it should fall from my belt or pocket when I'm up on a ladder or coming down out of an attic. I may have to put a retainer/safety leash type attachment on it so it doesn't hit the floor. I've dropped enough flashlights and watched them shatter on the floor before that I only buy the cheap ones now.

I even tried out the Couples Dating website last night on the new phone. It wasn't to bad but I do prefer the large laptop screen. Definitely prefer the laptop when blogging. I will get some of those touch screen stylus pen things to make typing messages out a little easier as my finger tips and the small squares of the letters aren't fully compatible. Though I did find the speech to type feature works quite well but I don't think I want to use that for this site if anyone is around.

So I guess I'm officially in the twenty first century now... My said finally when she saw me with the new phone. My ex said the same thing when she saw and so did my Sister. Oh well what can I say, I just hadn't got around to it yet... If it wasn't for the easier typing for texting and the fact that I can use it for work I would be happy with the razor...

So how do you like your phone smart or not so smart?

Congratulations on climbing out of the stone age!! As for my phone, the smarter the better. I do just about everything on my phone or a tablet, it's just so much faster. Anything that requires typing, I still do on the laptop, though.

Yes, the typing is still better on the laptop though as someone mentioned you can get a bluetooth keyboard.

What do you think about them eliminating the head phone jack on the new model? I think it was a bad idea. Now you have to buy bluetooth headphones/earbuds etc. and recharge them all the time. No more just going to the store and getting a cheap pair of earbuds when you lose or break them...

I recently bought a new phone, but not a smart phone, but i haven't set it up yet. Apart from ordering taxis, I don't really miss a phone. I'm regressing to the twentieth century!

I had an old flip phone until recently. I needed a battery and the phone was having some other issues too, so I upgraded to an iPhone 6. I like it. But I like my '53 Ford Golden Jubilee tractor more.

I agree with you, I don't really like phones a lot but they are convenient especially for work, which is actually part of the reason I don't like phones much because when it rings it is usually work... But it is a nice upgrade from the old razor and has lots of convenience features. The things that last are much more appreciated aren't they.

A disclaimer: I *love* electronic gadgets. If I became a billionaire over night I'd probably spend the first month just ordering every computer and mobile doo-dad from drones to 3D printers to anything else that is new ad shiny.

That being said, I have a Samsung Galaxy 7 that I got this summer. I was thinking about upgrading anyway and at the time I got it, it came with aa virtual reality headset so that kind of sealed the deal for me. I love my smartphone and can't wait to see what the next leap in technology is.

Heck, I'm ready to get something implantable!

Yep I like tools and gadgets too but I would probably build a bigger house a much bigger house with lots of space to put all the junk in first.

Waiting to see what the next leap was going to be is one of the reasons I haven't gotten around to picking out a new phone for so long.

9 years ago when we were in Australia for 6 months, I couldn't understand why people were texting each other instead of just calling.

Now I can't imagine it any other way. I text instead of calling. I google when I have a question. I go on this site when I am out and about and bored and keep the sound off. I have an iPhone 6 and I really do like it quite a bit.

I do like it better then my old razor. It is a lot more convenient as I can access my customer phone numbers quicker and even have addresses, emails etc. etc. on it. Not to mention the quicker texting process.

Always a good story when you're being dragged into the present. I had an old LG .a friend gave me for fixing her ancient computer. Finally that got buggy and the AT&T service person advised me to buy an unlocked phone and then continue a month to month service with AT&T. Did the research and settled on a Moto G 4th generation.

Has WiFi tethering, 4G etc. First thing the AT&T service tech told was to add a 32 Gb card. Got a sturdy cover off Newegg. I'm outside a lot. I'd never take the "free offer" cause there's no free lunch. You end up paying a lot more than a straight up phone purchase
Never look back

tickles4us replies on 10/30/2016 9:28 am:
Yep and it will be quicker and easier then pulling the laptop out from behind the seat to look up files and such. I put in a 32 Gb card and screen protector and very tough case as I'm kind of rough on things that are attached to me. It is a lot nicer for texting which is something I've not been a big fan of since I didn't like punching the number buttons the required number of times to get the right letter or worse the right punctuation. It is actually free no strings, they just wanted to keep me as a customer, but of course when I decide on a data plan that will increase my bill but that's true anyway.

I've had my Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime for over a year now. When I bought it they put the protective screen glass on top and put it in the rubber casing. I have a thin crack running across the outer glass but I really like this phone. I can even "tether" a laptop off of it so I can use my T-Mobile internet service. I had a "slide" phone before this.

tickles4us replies on 10/30/2016 9:18 am:
I ordered the glass screen protector and a rugged case which has a plastic cover over the screen cover and installed them about a week after I got the phone. So now I clip it on my belt. I had been putting it in my shirt pocket as I know if I had put it in my pants pocket it would have been crunched before the first day was over. Yeah this one has the tether feature also which could be handy. Though most of the places I go I have their internet access password anyway so I wouldn't need to use up my data plan. I had been thinking about a smart phone anyway because I can access my customers accounts through one. That means if I wanted I could reduce a lot of paperwork/files that I carry around and I could access the accounts I didn't bring with me that called for a service call while I was on the road.

OtterBox makes a Defender series case for just about every phone out there. They're not cheap, but they're extremely durable!
I've had a smart phone for years and have only recently started texting, but I also have one of the really large phones with a screen that's fairly easy to see...and use the keyboard. Well, considering it's a tiny keyboard with no real keys. If I have to use it much for typing, I'd be checking to see if they still make bluetooth keyboards.

Hmmmm....I know I left that wand around here somewhere!

tickles4us replies on 10/29/2016 4:36 pm:
Yep the little onscreen keyboard is a bit tiny. A bluetooth one wouldn't be a bad idea, I'll have to keep that in mind when I get around to using it for work and need to type information in though the voice to type works well also.
