No Knights Remain No Knights Remain Tell the damsels to go away no knights remain in this neighbourhood their shields are broken and carry the bluntest of blunt swords their horses are in the meadows their squires making daisy chains and their armour is so tarnished know it shall never shine again so tell all the damsels they will need to find their own way build ropes with which to climb down from towers innumerable learn how to sneak past their captors or to lull dragons into deep sleep for all the knights are gone their spirits have drained away seems they are mired in the bogs of in decision and doubt a bewitching place for such men of physical courage and bravery to not know what to do to see they are as vulnerable as every single maid or damsel they had ever saved or thought to they had once wished to love instead a fog upon them deep a magic spell or enchantment which it seems has put their best natures into the very deepest of sleep made them useless to save damsels and these battle hardened muscles thoughts of guile and martial skills they put aside for seducing those milk maids and princesses feisty enough to search these knights out and bring them once more to life. Sir, first of all, thanks for your reply. you said 'not sure a feminist thought' but, a feminist also advocates the independece of women as you commented that 'rather than awaiting someone to carry you off and make you the centre-point of theirs.' I think you will agree that independece is significant for both men and women, and for knights and damsels. Surely, your writing is abundant in thoughts, not merely limited to one point I indicated above. perhaps I do not particularly allocate that to be a solely feminist perspective, rather one we can all advocate. Equality, and respect, means we ignore the gender, and are blind to race and religion, instead treat all as equal, all as human, without regard to matters which might divide us. as for the abundance of thought...some things require thought, and some seem to be self-evident.....though perhaps in a world where commonsense is not always common, such an attitude that some things are self-evident reflects a life of privilege and of a cosy insulation from the real hardships others face. indeed there is, more importantly all of us, boy, and girl (going with high level basic gender groupings here!), sometimes are in distress, and need the saving by a knight of either gender. Remember, similar to the fact no one on the internet knows if you are a dog or human on the other end, the old Medieval statement, you never know who is beneath the helm and plate-mail armour.... Mulleen, you have a few men commenting on this poem. It is interesting. Some call such thinking in this poem as advocating independence and even feminism. Good calls. As much as I wish to be saved and afforded safe harbor I am the one that has a caretaking nature. I am ever the one who finds the broken men. I don't know if to react to a knight at this point. I doubt I caught all the nuances of modern society in one poem, however often what is written, is not as important as what the words say when read by another, by the attachment they form with the words, and their own world and experiences. once the words leave my keyboard it is the reader's own perspective on the words that then drives what the words say to them.
