they are handing out nail guns at the door
find the celebrity whose lifestyle you abhor
write harshly about them and declare a twitter war
no angels of our better nature remain
we are all trolls and demons and all the same
the last saints have left the planet and the building
now to the demons of our worst nature we are yielding
bring forth all your best china and let it fall
let us shoot at it until nothing is left at all
an assault rifle murderous for our sense of protection
used by misguided teenagers dealing with rejection
an ultimate two fingers up at school and this life
leaving behind sadness grief and strife
the bloody broken bodies from military ammunition
shot through young souls not yet in need of contrition
while the older blacker souls mired in self interest
upon the Potomac will not their real intentions divest
say one thing and do another
offer prayers but never bother
to change the rules by which we die
unable to answer to any the reason why
except to pick up another cross
to mark another innocent lost

and as we veer further from the ideals of democracy, we sow the seeds of future civil disorder, of nations ignoring the rule of law, of armies crossing borders....of the chaos in which "civilization" succumbs to its own worse nature...
