deeper shade of blue
My old slate holds all tales
recounts victories and the many fails
what could have been and what was
each win it seems balanced by a loss
so when I see your face and lips red
why do these thoughts anew rear their head
thoughts dead and dreams set aside
in an enthanasian act of suburban suicide
now your curves and words attract
the careful heart snared in a trap
a painful trap to well the wiser head knows
and yet the younger heart still goes
alive with the hope of something new
perhaps a hint of a deeper shade of blue
how the mystery in your eyes I have to learn
how for companionship the lonely heart does yearn
those sensual lips of yours red and full and sharp
wielded truly might return edge to this blunt heart
what is there to lose this time but time
and not to use time so would be the greater crime
to allow a life half lived as your life to stand
to accept the dull conventional and the bland
reject this chance of passion and desire
smother completely the heart's raw fire
so when I see your face and lips red
the decision made in heart and head
to live without guards and in you trust
before acidic time signals dust to dust
chance to be a comet across a life stark
so others examining can see passion's mark
feel the pulse and heat of blood flowing
at the edge of the sea on the verge of going
attempt once more to taste the deeper shade of blue
explore sensual dreams within and between me and you.
