Good riddance to bad rubbish

Yesterday was an historic event, The passing of Fidel Castro. A man that single handedly destroyed the culture of Cuba 50 years ago . Although the island had not a democratic government it was thriving. Now it is a tattered shell of it self. The people are limited to what food the government allows them (rationed). The soldiers were used as an exchange commodity with Russia for any years, being sacrificed for food and other commodities. The infrastructure remains in shambles. There will no change in the government since the military and Castros brother are still in control. As the title says," Good riddance to bad rubbish"

A families monthly food ration

He has ruined a beautiful island. Many call it a "sister" to Puerto Rico. Actually our flags are the same with the colors reversed. I am happy he is gone

I had to chance to visit cuba and some places are very nice where I was and some other places very poor. As you said what you saw for food rations wasn't much. I think things will get a whole lot better now then before but you can't give back that 50 years to them. They are behind on just about everything in this world including the limited internet access they get. One can only hope it does get better for them. Maybe you will get a chance to go visit this place. The beaches are beautiful! hugsssssssss V

I have been to Cuba and Mexico/Caribbean and really saw no difference in the way people lived - the resort/posh life and the much poorer communities exist for all. I never saw the presence of the army but have certainly read lots about it. Cuba has always been a great travel destination

Cuba needs a dose of American love and prayers for things to improve. Thanks for an insightful post

I think the American trade embargo may have had something to do with Cuba's stagnating economy. Though Castro was no democrat, he did preside a very good system in providing education and health care to ordinary Cubans.

I couldn't agree more with you here, but unfortunately there were two other sad losses, Florence Henderson the Brady Bunch mom, and then Ron Glass who played on Barney Miller..May they all rest in peace except for Fidel I am sure the devil has been waiting for him..

Seduce the mind and see what a wonderful adventure the body will take you on..

As long as their military remains, it will not change. I would never consider visiting that country

Great pics. It seems that something good has happened over there with his passing. Maybe they can depose his brother and the rest of those who destroyed a pretty country.

I would think that the citizens acceptance of the regime is the primary causation. Maybe the arbitrary imprisonment policy and approximately 1 million expulsion may have some thing to do with it.
