Shhhh, Can You Keep A Secret?

Today I was thinking about secrets. The power they hold and the possible consequences for those involved if you don’t keep the secret (friendships lost). Do you know there are studies that show keeping secrets can physically weigh you down?

When someone asks you, “can you keep a secret” do you get excited about learning or knowing something that you are supposed to keep to yourself? Do you automatically say yes, because you are curious and can’t wait to tell? Do you feel a sense of dread before answering? Have you ever said, No, I would prefer not knowing?

I can keep secrets. I had to for my work. I have kept secrets told to me by friends. It is important to me that my friends know they can trust me.

There have been a couple of times when I did not keep the secrets. I couldn’t. Those who were involved know why and they understand (now). For those of you who do not know me, don’t judge me for this.

So……..here is the poll:
Yes
No
Maybe ( please give a description)

Sometimes there is a problem with secrets. They provide protection for the wrong people and continue to cause pain to the people who were hurt. Families are great repositories of secrets, most of them not good.

Sooner or later the truth is always known. It's always better to have truth rather than secrets.
Kimbarkson, I think you are right. Secrets can hurt and seem to have a way of coming out (not all). Thank you for visiting my blog - nice to see you here.

funny, I agree that if someone is going to hurt themselves or someone else there is a moral and ethical duty to tell.

49plus20, I can't say that I "love" keeping secrets. I can do it but don't always like doing it.

IKan, you bring up some interesting points! Are there any right or wrong answers? The couple of times I did not keep the secret I was told was because the person who told me planned on hurting (killing) themselves. I had to tell to get them the help they needed. In the end, both understood.
