In reply to a well intentioned ... and perhaps misguided reader, I decided to post the exact message to Couples Dating's Customer Service folks so my readers can see exactly what I said rather than a paraphrase or 'misremembered' summary.

Here is the exact test of what I sent to several of the Couples Dating Customer Service Folks -

I am extremely disappointed with the new limitations being placed on Standard Members. These changes have been implemented with: No warning, No Member input, No clear rationale (aside from revenue), and No incentive to Upgrade one's Membership to avoid the new restrictions.

First came the loss of popularity and activity privileges. Next, the IM limitations. Now, the e-mail restrictions - What's next ?.?.?

Couples Dating is already one of the more expensive Adult Social Media sites on the Web - So, there is little incentive to purchase a Membership. Even purchasing a Membership has its' own difficulties. I have previously used pre-loaded credit cards to preserve my anonymity when upgrading to Gold Membership. However, since Couples Dating began processing its' merchant transactions outside of the United States - most cards will not authorize the transactions requiring one to place the order over the telephone. The catch here is because order was placed 'in person' rather than 'electronically,' You loose the incentives, special sale prices, and enhanced benefits offered to sweeten the deal and mitigate the cost of upgrading.

You would think that given the swarm of negative press concerning adult social media sites that Couples Dating would be very sensitive to moves that would alienate its' Membership - Ashley Madison ring a bell ?.?

For years Couples Dating has beseeched its' Members and offered incentives to add Photos & Video to Profiles, to verify Identity, join User Groups, Write Blogs, and a number of other enhancements - for what ?.? We are encouraged to spend more time online and interact more with other Users; and, When We do - We are then sanctioned and/or grabbed by the throat and told pay up or else.

Even worse, our Profiles & Digital Footprints are now held hostage, subject to data breeches, hacking, and threat of public shamming. Combine this with the constant solicitation from professional web-cam sites, working girls, catfishers, spam-bots, and fraudulent user profiles; there is very little incentive given to upgrade one's Membership.

I have been with Couples Dating in one form or another for nearly 12 years. If I did not have such an established presence, deep friendships, and social contacts in the 'lifestyle' on the Site I would have left long ago.

Interestingly I received a nice reply or two identical to the message below. Essentially, when you read between the lines it says thank you for the new stuff we promptly added to the 'round file' ... ... It looks like the days are numbered for regular folks on this site ... ...

Someone got a reply to their similar mail to customer service that indicated all the changes were still in testing mode and it was not decided yet if they were permanent.
We can only hope they come to their senses.

You are exactly right I received a similar message that this was a 'trial period' in the first message I sent to Customer Support. I sent the same note to several different departments and received the message above for all my subsequent messages.
