Julius Caesar

The San Francisco Shakespeare Festival put on a one hour performance of Julius Caesar in the Sunset District Library basement. There were maybe 30 in the audience, 20 grownups; each an appreciatiive audience.

Just goes to show how good Shakespeare is. Still an excellent performance, exciting, taut, riveting. With five actors--it was like a cast of thousands; with minimal scenery, well--minimal scenery goes a long way. Blood on knives was conveyed with deep red ribbons. The final battle scene in World War I uniforms.

This was the first Shakespeare play I had read; in high school, we were expected to memorize the speech, "Friends Romans, Countrymen..." I was surprised at how much I had remembered.
