MISDEMEANOURS AT SCHOOL
MISDEMEANOURS AT SCHOOL Here are nine accounts of famous people being expelled from school: 1. Salvador Dalí (see above), the Spanish surrealist artist, was expelled from the Special Painting, Sculpture and Engraving School of San Fernando in Madrid for displaying extravagant behaviour, including insulting one of his professors during his final examination. 2. Tony Blair, the former British Prime Minister, was expelled from Fettes, a top public school in Edinburgh, for insolence. 3. Humphrey Bogart, an American actor, was expelled from school for pushing a teacher into a pond. 4. Richard Branson, the British business entrepreneur, was expelled from boarding school for visiting a girl’s dormitory at night; on being caught by the headmaster and asked what he was doing, Richard Branson replied, "I was on my way back from your ’s room, sir." 5. Snoop Dogg, an American artist, was expelled from California’s Cleveland Elementary School because, in his words, "I showed a little girl my little thang!" 6. Rupert Everett, a British actor, attended the Central School of Speech and Drama in London but was expelled for drug-taking, which seems quite a tame reason to be expelled now! 7. Owen Wilson, an American actor, was expelled for stealing a teacher’s textbook that contained all the answers to his homework. 8. Stephen Fry, a British comedian, actor, television presenter, writer and polymath, stole a credit card while attending Uppingham School in Rutland for which he was both expelled for school and imprisoned in jail; he is currently being investigated by the Irish police for blasphemy after denouncing God as "utterly evil, capricious and monstrous" on television. 9. Tori Amos (see below), an American singer-songwriter, was expelled from the prestigious Peabody Conservatory of Music, part of John Hopkins University, because of musical differences; she liked pop and rock music and disliked reading from sheet music. Were you ever excluded, whether expelled or suspended from school? If so, what did you do? I've never been excluded from school though I did come top of the caning league in my class at school. Once I got caned for farting and I don't even fart! Inside is a bonus account of one hypocrite’s expulsion from school. |

I was a nerd too. Always at school trying for that perfect attendance record and the award that went with it. Ironically I can't find any of those awards today so not sure why the hell I would want something I did not care about saving. Oh well. Be safe. Ciao. Gina {=}

Were you ever excluded, whether expelled or suspended from school? Suspended a couple times in high school for cutting a class or a day to go to the beach. The irony was you got a day off for taking a day off. When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro. The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

No, I've never been expelled from a school. Are you familiar with the 2008 film by Paul Morrison "Little Ashes"? I loved it. It was about 18 years old Dali and his friends Federico Garcia Lorca and Luis Bunuel who met on their first day in the Special Painting, Sculpture and Engraving School of San Fernando in Madrid. This film gave great insight into Dali's extravagance. He was very shy, you know. Most of his misdemeanors were rooted in that shyness. I was suspended several times for smoking. One time all I did was drop a cigarette out the car door when I was arriving for class. .. I ended up missing so many days that I was going to have to forfeit my credits, so I stopped going. It's not like I was learning much there anyway. Read my diary Journal of a Taxi Driver for taxi stories and pictures of flowers and trees.

my one and only suspension was suspended. I sassed a teacher but when they found out why they let me off the hook. i was active in civil rights stuff but that was all part of the now defunct civics classes so i could legitimately march etc. and even miss school under that banner. You cannot conceive the many without the one.

Were you ever excluded, whether expelled or suspended from school? If so, what did you do? No I was never suspended but I left early often when I didn't get there late and sometimes when I did. But I had a good excuse during my junior and senior years, I just abused it to the point they didn't even think I was supposed to be in some of the classes. Vive La Difference

Primary school time was kinda normal, apart from been lifted off the ground , in morning assembly, if you were naughty the day before! need to re-phrase that last one to....if you were naughty the day before and got caught or grassed up! It gave you such a headache, you did not do more that simply breath in and out for days! Secondary school, different ball game. My first year I was known as this exemplary pupil and by third year I was now known as "that lost rug". 4th year in secondary school, first time ever on a mixed sex school.... different ball game altogether. Took me just 3 months in to gain my first expulsion. Had to try harder as I was not caught yet...When I had already decided to go join the ships, I went in for an exam. The questions were what were the tools of a farmer 500 years ago, so I mentioned tractors, wind generators, photo voltaic green houses, etc, gave it in completed five minutes later, the teacher looked at it, and took off, 3 floors bellow to show the head master. I was sure I seen them pissing themselves through the glass on the office door, meanwhile it was my last good Samaritan act, leaving all my mates upstairs, unattended during exam time. She came out a few minutes later with the good news, been expelled from every school in the country, as if it meant something!
