Fair Weather Friends
Fair Weather Friends I’ve been popular. I’ve been not-so-much. I’ve had an insanely complicated amount of friends. I’ve had three or four truly close friends. Sitting here, in my forties, I’ve looked back at my friendolution with wonder and awe. There are some friends that have drifted out that I am relieved to be rid of. Doesn’t that sound harsh? But it’s true. The psychic vampire friends. The ones who were exhausting to be around in the first place. Or the ones whose expectations I could never meet. Then there are the friends, just a couple, that I still wonder about. Still pine for. Why did our friendship have to end? Was it something I said or did? What happened that I missed? But through my friendolution, one truth remains the same. I have no use for the fair weather friends. To be my friend you must stick with me through thick and thin. Loyalty is paramount. Kindness is crucial. Compassion is a must. Patience and understanding will take us far. I make mistakes but I own them. I’m not afraid to apologize. The so-called friends who have dumped me because: I divorced. I wouldn’t gossip with them. I changed jobs. I got re-married. I had . I didn’t have . I created a 'friends only' blog post. Some of you? Good riddance. I don’t need any fair weather friends. |

Well said, far too much drama in the world today.

It sounds like someone complained about your "friends only" post. Although I am lucky enough to be your friend here, I have seen plenty of the "friends only" posts to know that sometimes we need to unload to a select group of people and I might not be included. At that point, it is not about me the reader but it is about he writer. People who can't be patient are not worth the time. I hope you continue doing what you need to do to have a great life! Are fair weather friends really friends? I think a better term would be acquaintances or just somebody you "know". Vive La Difference

"I close my eyes, only for a moment And the moment's gone All my dreams pass before my eyes, a curiosity" Great post!

If it is no longer fun for you, it is time to take a break. You can go inactive without dumping your profile. Give yourself the time to make an informed decision. Be safe, relax and just have fun!

People say I have the patience of a saint...but they didn't say which saint

I can probably count all my "friends" on one hand. Might take two, but I won't need my toes. I've always been that way, and that's how I like it. Smart as a horse and hung like Einstein.

Its clear who are the fair weather friends. You patiently listen to all of their problems....offer support and compassion. You keep most of your stuff inside then when you need to share with them.....their is some difficult silence as they offer so little in return. A very honest blog that I agree with. Just glad those "friends" see my best side since they are behind me now.

Are fair weather friends really friends? I think a better term would be acquaintances or just somebody you "know". IMO, online friends are a whole other thing than what I knew as friends before the inter/web/nets. It is difficult to form a lasting bond with someone who you never really interact with face-to-face. In the case on this site(s) we don't even know if the face (or other parts) we see are really those of who is typing the words. At best, IMO, the most one can have with someone online (no contact outside of this site(s)) is an acquaintance. There have been instances here where complete strangers get upset over what another complete stranger has said. When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro. The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

I have more on-line friends then real friends, I prefer it that way. Some would say I'm being selfish, But when you get pulled into the murky waters too many times, it's best to stay away from the shore.

Dont know what you had in friends only post. But I agree friends shouldnt change based on your marriage status. Well may be if they are your friends though your spouse.

I love this post, Myelin. I actually wrote a song about this a few years ago. In this age of Social Media it has become hard to lose touch with friends. Even if someone doesn't want to be my friend anymore, some other friend will keep me up-to-date on that person. The next generation may never miss anyone. Wistfulness may be a thing of the past. Nevertheless, I have lost touch with a few friends, but the good ones always come back. My featured post this week: Pulling Fantasy Sex Out of My Ass.

People come and then they go, and sometimes you don't even know why. At least the ones who left in a storm let you know what they were mad about. I reckon that's good for something. I'm sorry that happened to you though. It does hurt to lose a friend. Become a member now and get a free tote bag.

I feel like friends from Couples Dating are more real than some from the larger community. Because of the nature of this site, many expectations are out in the open.
