Who Says Superman Has the Only Fortress of Solitude?

There are days when solitude is a heady wine that intoxicates you with freedom, others when it is a bitter tonic, and still others when it is a poison that makes you beat your head against the wall.

Freedom, 1908

In these parts, it is Spring Break. Because of my condition, I am unable to really go anywhere with the family. I have way too many supplies to pack and I have to be here on Tuesdays because home-health has to change the dressing on my PICC line. So, Alfred and Bat-Mite are gone for the week to visit the grandparents in Arkansas. I put the Boy Wonder on a bus yesterday and he is on his way to Phoenix, Arizona for the Best of the West baseball tournament with his high school baseball team. My parents are following him and they all got delayed by the large winter storm out there. The grandparents left yesterday morning and went as far as Winslow. The bus left about 6pm yesterday and drove all night and got as far as Winslow before they close the interstate. They are now moving again, but had to back-track to Holbrook and take I-77. The team had tickets to a spring training game out there today but they didn't make it. They are several hours behind schedule.

I think I mentioned in a previous blog that the Boy Wonder was rather upset at the beginning of the season because they were only going to let him play JV this year. That changed quickly. He is now the number one relief pitcher and is averaging a couple innings a game at pitcher. In three appearances, he has one save. I went to his game Friday night about 50 miles from here and he didn't come in till the sixth inning when they were down 5-1. The Boy Wonder threw eleven total pitches and struck out two of the three batters. The other batter hit a fly to right field so it was three up and three down. He did much better than the starter who was a senior. There was even a college scout there to watch the starter. Sadly, the good guys still lost 5 to 3. His only gripe now is he isn't getting any time in the field and very few at bats. I told him to talk to the JV coach and, if there's no conflict, go play the field for the JV.

So what am I to do with all this alone time? I know what you are thinking and I've already done that....a few times. I have a list of things I want to get accomplished while I have alone time. I need to spray the lawn for weeds. I need to cut some lumber for the edging I'm going to use for a herb garden right off the patio. Unfortunately, the weather here isn't very cooperative. We are supposed to get lots of rain this week from the same storm that is delaying the Boy Wonder's team. I also have a few items I want to cook this week while everyone is away.

I enjoy doing a little experimenting when I don't have to worry about feeding everyone else. Tonight I am going to make a beer-can chicken on the grill. Later in the week I want to get some cornish game-hens and put them on the rotisserie. Alfred doesn't like salmon for some reason so I will also cook some of that later in the week. Salmon with a nice dill sauce anyone?

I had to do a few things to be more self sufficient this week. Alfred helped me change my iliostomy bag Thursday evening since she left Friday. I am going to have the home-health nurse help me change it again on Tuesday when she comes. We also had to add tubing extensions to my PICC line connections so that I could attach my IV by myself. I have to be able to reach the ends with both hands.

So what else should I do while I'm home alone for the week? Any suggestions?

And yes, I do wish I could have gone to Phoenix, snow or not.

See you next time, same Batchannel.
Pax!

Sorry my dear, but being a standard member I can't send an email or I would send you one. What exactly is it you would like a pic of?

It's hard when you aren't with the ones you love. My mini me has been gone with her dad this past week....

I think it sounds like you have a pretty good plan of staying busy. Hopefully things will work out that you get everything done and your mind stays occupied. Hugs
With the expected weather forecast, I don't expect the yard work to get done. But, I'm sure I can find something to do inside to keep me busy.
